Capturing Memories of Proud Moments and Accomplishments

You work hard and you play hard; that’s often key for a successful career. In fact, those same qualities that make you valuable in your career often keep you busy in your personal life: drive, commitment, and goal-setting.  So, it’s fitting that when you achieve a business or personal goal or milestone that you capture the moment. After all, you should be proud of your accomplishments.  When it is a personal achievement, often your clients will be proud of you too. Whether it’s running a marathon, completing a triathlon, finishing a painting, performing on a stage, golfing, or anything, your proud moments matter. Just like with corporate headshots, Nikki Cole is there to capture your personality with portrait services. A well-shot portrait does more than show people what you look like, it helps them learn who you are. It showcases your personality, your talents and your commitment. It’s good to think beyond a corporate headshot. A professionally photographed portrait or capture of your accomplishments stands out among the candid shots. The lighting, the feeling and the moment all come through in a way a cellphone camera just can’t quite capture. If you’d like your client base to learn a little […]

4 Very Important Tips When Looking For A Photographer In Boston

Everyone can take pictures; however, not everyone has the eye, equipment and experience to be called a professional photographer. So, how do you glean out the pros from the amateurs? Experience – Everyone has to start somewhere; however, some experience does matter, especially when it comes to corporate photography. With experience a photographer learns how to manage their subjects, their setting and the client. With experience a photographer learns how to ensure the end result photos match the shot list. With experience a photographer learns how to capture those moment-in-time special details the client will love. Portfolio – A professional photographer should have a portfolio outlining their specialized type of photography.  A portfolio will showcase their range of work, along with their style. Style – While reviewing a portfolio you will get a good sense of the photographer’s style. It is important you choose a photographer who has the style you are looking for. You may love someone’s photographs, but if their style doesn’t match your needs, you should look elsewhere. Equipment – From the camera to the lighting, equipment matters. It is important to provide the photographer with a brief based on your requirements and then allow them to […]

What to Wear When Giving a Public Lecture

Whether you’re giving a lecture for work or school, it’s critical to look presentable. While you may be blowing away the audience with your speech, you could also be scaring them off with your appearance. It’s essential to provide your audience with an air of confidence and this means looking the part. You don’t need to be dressed in a ball gown or a tuxedo to look sharp, just make sure you are wearing the essentials. Tip #1 Dress Better than Your Audience You want to make sure you dress just as nice as the audience or slightly better. However, don’t go overboard so you look like a fish out of water. Know who your audience is so you understand exactly what to wear. It should be obvious whether you need to wear a suit and tie or just a simple button down. Tip #2 You Must be Able to Move If you are going to be walking around a stage, don’t let fashion restrict your movement. Even if you’re standing in front of a podium, you’ll still be animated to capture your audience’s attention. Make sure your outfit isn’t too snug or restricting so you don’t feel uncomfortable walking […]

Are Headshots Important?

Whether you are applying for a job or publishing an article, it’s important to always appear professional, both in person and online. If you’re hesitant about investing in professional headshots, think about what that photo you took on your iPhone says about you. A photo taken on your iPhone or digital camera won’ be able to capture you in the best light, at the best angle, and it certainly won’t capture your personality. A professional headshot can show off your confidence and style. Here are a few more reasons why headshots are important to have: Since social media is a strong part of our society, anyone can search for you on Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn to find out more information. Your headshot can often be the first impression people have of you. Investing in professional headshots shows that you care about all the details and how you appear to others. These photos will also show you take yourself seriously as a professional. Many of your peers may still rely on just regular photos, so when you have professional photos to represent yourself to potential employers or recruiters, you will stand out from the crowd! When communicating with professionals, it’s not just about what’s written down, […]

Empowering Campaigns- Always #LikeAGirl

There is nothing better than looking at an image of a strong and confident subject.  I’m constantly looking for images and campaigns that portray that strength and beauty for my own inspiration. If you haven’t watched the Always (the manufacturer of the feminine product) #LikeAGirl video campaign, take the time now to watch it. Even though the first video campaign was published over two years ago, it still has such a strong impact every time I watch it. The Always #LikeAGirl video was published in June of 2014 and currently has over 62 million views on their YouTube channel. The campaign video is always the same, to empower girls and women around the world to believe in themselves. The video didn’t receive much of a recognition until it aired during the 2015 Super Bowl.  It asks a range of people to perform certain tasks, “like a girl.” The older men and women performed these tasks like running or fighting in a weak and silly manner. It appeared that all these people were implying that doing something “like a girl” is to do it poorly. However, when the same question was asked to young girls (not yet marred by societal expectations […]

Venues in Boston to Host Corporate Events

I’ve had the chance to photograph hundreds of corporate events throughout the city of Boston. Hotels and conference centers are probably one of the best choices you can make when selecting corporate event space in Boston. They offer convenient overnight accommodations and dining options as well as nearby tourist spots of the family of event guests.  If you’re looking to host major exhibits, a trade show, or convention here are a few of my favorite venues that I have worked with! The Seaport Hotel & World Trade Center is one of my favorite venues to photograph for both special events and conferences! This venue has endless options for corporate event spaces from seven ballrooms to a massive exhibit hall that holds close to 3,500 guests. In the same area of the World Trade Center, the Exchange Conference Center is located in the Boston Seaport District. The Conference Center offers multiple corporate event spaces with large windows that show beautiful waterfront views. The Boston Convention and Exhibition Center is a large venue in the heart of Seaport and has around 82 meeting rooms that can be transformed for numerous purposes. The Mandarin Oriental located in Boston has extravagant ballrooms, three beautifully […]

How to Make Clients Comfortable on a Shoot

Photographers can run in situations where it’s difficult to make their subjects feel comfortable and relaxed when they are photographed. The first step is all about being prepared. Let them know what the shoot will be like. I always suggest my clients find clothing that really reflects their style, personality, and taste.  I also suggest they choose outfits they are comfortable in and that look great on them.   I learn if there are things they don’t like about themselves so I can work the right angles. It can be a bit scary to just jump into a photo shoot unaware of how to pose. It’s helpful to direct clients to general poses and then allow them the freedom to become more comfortable and make the pose their own   The day of the shoot, I try to start in my office and chat a bit to get them comfortable before we head into the studio.  At that point, I really just make a fool of myself until they laugh, anything to keep it light. It’s important to engage with your clients on more than just a “photographer-subject” exchange.  I chat through the whole shoot so they can take their […]

Social Media – A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

Social media has changed the way we all do business.  As a small business owner, I use social media every day to advertise my photography services.  The images on your social media business page can be a huge asset to your growing business.  But they can also hurt.  Let’s consider your actual profile photo.  Your profile photo will represent you on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.  They’re even used with many email platforms.  Considering many of our first interactions with potential clients are through social media and email, these images are introducing you to your future clients.  What does your profile pic say about you? It’s common practice to use a selfie for social media.  Some people go as far as asking a friend to take a photo of them.  I don’t deny cell phone images have improved in quality throughout the years, but if the user does not understand light and angles, you’re still probably stuck with a sub-par photo.  So what does the selfie or cell phone photo say about you and your business?  Maybe it says you don’t care that much about first impressions.  Or that you are not interested in projecting professionalism.  On […]

Hands Up for Haiti – Imagery and Fundraising

I’m so happy to announce a new development that holds great significance in my life both personally and professionally.  I have just been accepted to join a group of medical professionals and volunteers with Hands Up for Haiti on a trip to Cap Haitien, Haiti in January, 2016.  The group will be working to deliver medical services and supplies to people in the area and I will be documenting the trip.  I’m so grateful for the opportunity to use my photography skills to give back.  Ever since I started shooting professionally, I’ve considered myself a story teller.  And with as many happy stories as I’ve told, I knew I wanted to tell the stories of people who need help.  I believe this is the perfect opportunity.   I’d love to tell you a bit about Hands Up for Haiti.  HUFH was founded in 2010 in response to the devastating earthquake in the region.  They were directed at that time to Cap Haitien, an area less known than the capital Port au Prince and less affected by the earthquake, but in real need of medical care.  Since 2010, they’ve planned several trips per year back to Cap Haitien.  Their mission statement […]
